The Table began in an upper room in downtown Knoxville in 1874.  Having spent the past one-Hundred years as First Christian Church, on the corner of 5th Ave. and Gay Street in downtown Knoxville, our congregation reached the decision to become a new community of faith.  While we are 141 years old, we are a community in formation.  Our congregation is seeing new growth from the deep roots of our past.We welcome everyone, and everyone can take part in everything that we are doing.  We openly welcome and include people of all sexual orientations, gendesr, gender identities/expressions, race, ethnicities, socio-economic statuses or any other designations of individuals who have found themselves excluded and/or discriminated against by the church and/or society.  Here all will find welcome and a place to share all their God granted gifts with the whole church.  We believe that all people are God’s beloved children and are invited into full inclusion in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments of communion and baptism, as well as the church rites of marriage, death, and ordination, and the responsibilities, and blessings of participation in our congregation. The Table is God’s doing.  We are a group of people who gather with one thing in common- a belief in God as revealed in Jesus of Nazareth.  And so the group becomes a community centered around Jesus.

His mission to serve the needs of others… is our mission.

His welcome table… is our welcome table.

His hospitality… is our hospitality, welcoming everyone regardless.  As Jesus welcomed ALL, so do we.

His call to leadership, servant leadership, of both men and women- without distinction… is our call to leadership.

His challenge to love God with all our mind, heart, soul, and strength… is our challenge, and the challenge of everyone who might join this group.

And His final work of grace in the lives of all of us, is to make us gracious… and so we were, are, and will be.
